Recent transfer reports have suggested that Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira is attracting interest from Italy, with the Gunners seemingly content for him to leave if an acceptable offer is made.
According to The Telegraph, Serie A club AC Milan are preparing to make an offer for the Uruguayan, with the Gunners happy for the player to leave if he wants.
The Italian side have been keen on him in the past and previously made a move for him, but it was rejected at the time.
He played 39 times for Arsenal last season across all competitions, picking up two goals and one assist. Torreira has been good at breaking up play in the Premier League as he has averaged 1.1 successful tackles and 1.2 interceptions per game, via WhoScored.
However, central midfield duo Granit Xhaka and Dani Ceballos, whom Arsenal are hoping to bring back from Real Madrid after his loan spell ended, average higher when it comes to tackles and interceptions per game.
Even Matteo Guendouzi, who has been frozen out of the squad by Mikel Arteta, ranks higher than Torreira for those metrics, so it isn’t hard to see why the club might not stand in the way of the Uruguayan if he wants to leave.
He adds squad depth and featured regularly last season, but if the north London side can get a large transfer fee for £27m-valued Torreira, then it seems like a no-brainer to take the money, especially with the ongoing financial struggles at the club. He also might free up some much-needed funds to acquire Ceballos if Arteta wants to sign the Spaniard permanently.
Gunners fans, would you be fine with Torreira being sold if it freed up funds to sign Ceballos permanently? Let us know your views in the comments below!
