Arsenal are hoping to pick up a defender in the summer transfer window as they are keen on Bundesliga star Matthias Ginter.
According to Sky Sports Germany, Italian side Inter Milan are very keen on the defender as a replacement for Diego Godin, with Arsenal and fellow Premier League side Chelsea also monitoring the Borussia Mönchengladbach player.
The 27-year-old, who has 29 caps for Germany, only has one year left on his contract at Mönchengladbach and is valued at £25.2m on Transfermarkt, but he could be available for less than that due to his imminent contract expiry.
Mikel Arteta has emphasised that Sokratis Papastathopoulos is surplus to requirements at the Gunners, whilst they currently have Shkodran Mustafi, Callum Chambers and Pablo Mari all out injured, which only leaves them with David Luiz, Rob Holding and Sead Kolasinac available as centre-back options ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup final against Chelsea.
This highlights the need for Arsenal to add a defender in the transfer window and Ginter could be an ideal signing as he managed 1.1 successful tackles and 1.1 interceptions a game in the 2019/20 Bundesliga whilst also making four clearances a game, per WhoScored.
He also has a great winning mentality, as he has won the German Super Cup and the German Cup at club level, as well as the Confederations Cup and the World Cup with Germany, per Transfermarkt.
At the age of 27, and with his experience and quality, he could be an ideal option for Arteta to add to Arsenal’s defence.
