There have been some reports around the future of some of Arsenal’s stars, but manager Mikel Arteta has hinted that he is keen to retain Alexandre Lacazette.
Speaking to Sky Sports (via TEAMtalk) about the French forward, Arteta said: “We have to have a chat about the next step with him and get his idea, his feeling. As I said, I am really happy with him. He’s a player that I always liked even when I wasn’t here, because [of] what he brings to the team, his qualities, his ability, his work rate.
“So let’s see. And now we are in a crucial moment. It’s not time to talk about a lot of contractual situations. We still have time and we will do it in the right moment.”
A report from the Daily Star suggested that the Frenchman could be sold in order to fund a potential move for Thomas Partey, with other reports mentioning that Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan are interested in the striker.
Lacazette is the Gunners’ joint-second highest scorer this season with 10 goals, including one against Wolves on Saturday, illustrating that he can still be a very important presence at the Emirates Stadium.
The level of reported transfer interest in Lacazette, along with his goal tally for the season, highlights the quality that he can bring to this Arsenal side.
The fact that Arteta doesn’t seem worried about the player leaving also seems a positive, and if their best players aren’t forcing a move away, it shows that there is a good feeling around the club and this should please Gunners supporters massively.
