There is a lot of transfer speculation surrounding defenders potentially coming to and also leaving Arsenal, with fresh reports on a centre-back possibly leaving the club.
According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Serie A club Napoli, who lost out on Jan Vertonghen to Benfica, are keen on bringing Sokratis Papastathopoulos to the Stadio San Paolo.
The Italian outfit are also keen on Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhaes, as are Arsenal, and even though they want Sokratis, this will not stop their advances for the Gunners’ transfer target from Lille.
While it would probably not end Napoli’s pursuit for Gabriel, letting Sokratis move to the Serie A side could be a good move by the Gunners.
According to Football.London, Arteta has told Sokratis that he is not in his plans going forward, and the Greece international has only made one appearance since 18 January due to a combination of injury and being unfancied by Arteta, who has favoured other options in the squad.
It could also help them push ahead of Napoli in the pecking order for Gabriel, as they might have greater finances at their disposal to beat the Azzurri to the deal. All in all, this deal seems to work best for Arsenal and hopefully they can come to an agreement which would see Sokratis depart and Gabriel arrive in north London.
Gunners fans, would you be alright with Sokratis potentially being sold? Let us know your views in the comments below!
