Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin has been at the club since 2011 when the Gunners signed him from the Barcelona under-18 squad, per Transfermarkt, but recent reports seem to suggest he could depart in the current transfer window.
The French club are discussing a possible fee with Arsenal and the player is also keen on a move away from the Gunners. If this did happen, it would likely see Ainsley Maitland-Niles become the starting right-back at the Emirates Stadium.
The 25 year-old has made 205 appearances for the north London side, scoring eight goals and supplying 25 assists, per Transfermarkt, but he only managed 15 appearances last season in the Premier League mainly due to injury.
He nonetheless managed some impressive defensive statistics last season, with match averages of 1.3 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 1.6 clearances, via WhoScored.
However, when compared with Maitland-Niles, who was primarily filling in for the injured Bellerinlast term, then the Englishman actually had a better season as both players had the same average for clearances, but Maitland-Niles managed 2.1 tackles and 1.4 interceptions per game, via WhoScored.
PSG should be a good move for Bellerin as they are in the Champions League and dominate in France, although this possible transfer could be a blessing in disguise for Arsenal as it looks like Maitland-Niles is definitely good enough to take over as the starting right-back.
Maitland-Niles has been linked with a potential exit but performances like these, along with his first England call-up, should be a wake up call for the Gunners and they should not allow him to depart. Therefore, if Bellerin does leave, it will not be too much of an issue for the club as they already have a very capable in-house replacement.
