Arsenal seem to be getting increasingly frustrated as they try to negotiate a deal with Atletico Madrid over defensive midfielder Thomas Partey, with recent reports indicating that this deal is far from happening.
According to the Daily Express, the Gunners have already told Atletico that they will not pay Partey’s £45m release clause. This has put the deal in serious doubt due to the fact that the Gunners have been informed by Atletico that the only way they can acquire the midfielder is if they pay the clause.
The north London side had an offer of £25m plus Matteo Guendouzi rejected and this latest update could be a worry for Arsenal fans.
The Ghanaian has been a rock in front of the Atletico Madrid defence as he has managed two successful tackles and 1.4 interceptions per match, whilst also averaging 1.9 successful dribbles a game, per WhoScored.
It will be very interesting to see what happens next as Arsenal have been desperate to sign the player for some time and they need to improve in the defensive aspects of their squad, having leaked 48 Premier League goals this season and only kept 10 clean sheets.
At the age of 27, he could be perfect for Arsenal for the next few years and could allow the attacking talent around him to have more freedom as he would surely add steel to the midfield, judging by his statistics for Atletico in recent months.
If Arsenal want such steel in their midfield to stem the flow of goals conceded, then they will need to somehow try and find the money to sign Partey.
Guendouzi is valued at £35.45m by Transfermarkt and, with Mikel Arteta freezing him out of the Gunners squad, the best idea would be to sell the Frenchman as quick as possible so that they can raise the funds for Partey.
