Arsenal clearly look to be in the market for a winger judging by recent rumours, with Justin Kluivert being linked. However it seems like they are also ready to attempt to sign his Roma team-mate Cengiz Under as an alternative option.
The Red Devils see him as a cheaper alternative to Jadon Sancho and, with both teams desperate to improve their attacks, a deal involving Under could go down to the wire.
The 22 year-old has made 21 appearances this season, scoring four goals, whilst also averaging 1.7 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.9 successful dribbles a game, as per WhoScored.
Meanwhile, current Gunners winger Nicolas Pepe has had a better campaign in his debut season in the Premier League, scoring four goals and picking up six assists in 37 appearances, whilst also averaging 1.8 shots, 1.4 key passes and 2.7 successful dribbles a game.
Even though the Ivorian has had more appearances, his superior attacking averages suggest that he is having a better season than Under. Also, with Bukayo Saka looking like he will get his chance in his favoured position on the wing, it is worth wondering whether Arsenal should be spending £27m on another winger who isn’t a discernible upgrade on what they already have.
Saka himself has three goals and nine assists to his name, with many of his appearances at left-back, so it seems like Under would just be taking game-time away from two better players if he came to Arsenal.
