Thomas Partey has been linked with Arsenal for the last few months andfans of the North London side will likely be happy with the latest update on the Ghanaian midfielder.
Spanish media outlet La Razon have claimed that the Atletico Madrid midfielder is now ‘close’ to signing for the Gunners this summer.
The 27-year-old is contracted at the Wanda Metropolitano until 2023 but will only leave this summer if his £47m release clause is triggered, according to La Razon (via Daily Express).
Partey is a player who is crucial to a team that has been praised by many for its world-class defensive setup as he manages two successful tackles and 1.4 interceptions per game, whilst also averaging 1.9 successful dribbles a game, per WhoScored.
Arsenal have conceded 41 goals, which is the 10th most in the Premier League, but if they want to be fighting for a top six spot, they need to stop leaking goals at such an alarming rate.
Therefore, someone like Partey, who is adept at breaking up opposition attacks as proven by his statistics, would be an ideal signing. Arsenal also have a lot of promising youth coming through at the club and someone with a vast amount of experience in Europe like Partey could be the ideal player to help in the continuing development of these precocious youngsters.
