Matteo Guendouzi is nowhere near the Arsenal squad at the moment as Mikel Arteta refuses to have him involved following a controversial incident at Brighton in June and the club may need to sell him so that they can free up some transfer funds.
Fresh transfer news suggests that former Gunners manager Unai Emery wants to bring the midfielder to Spain. According to Football Insider, La Liga side Villarreal, who recently hired Emery as manager, have submitted a formal offer for the Frenchman.
The bid is a season-long loan with a view to make the move permanent next summer, but the Gunners would prefer him to be sold permanently in this transfer window.
Arsenal are struggling financially at the moment, so the fact that Villarreal are trying for a loan may frustrate the Premier League club, who want to sell players to give Arteta the funds needed to build the squad that he wants.
The 21 year-old is valued at £28.8m by Transfermarkt, so the north London side could get a lot of money for him if he is sold permanently this summer.
However, this hasn’t been helped by the fact that he has not played since June, while perceived attitude problems could impact his transfer valuation negatively. Therefore, a loan move could see the Gunners get more for him next year if he were to perform well consistently and stay out of trouble.
Guendouzi needs to leave in this window, as there is a clear rift between him and Arteta, and this could ruin squad morale if he is at Arsenal for too long.
Therefore, if another club doesn’t make a permanent offer at a good price, then the Gunners might have to allow a loan deal to Villarreal – at least then they would not have to pay all of his wages.
However, the club will likely hope that they get a better offer for Guendouzi and so could hold out for as long as they can until they agree a deal which suits them.
