Arsenal have made some shrewd signings so far this transfer window as they have acquired experienced Premier League winger Willian, brought Dani Ceballos back on loan and bolstered the defence by bringing in Gabriel Magalhaes.
It seems as if Mikel Arteta is not finished in transfer window, though, as they are keen to bring in a winger, according to reports. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Gunners are interested in Stephan El Shaarawy, who currently plays in the Chinese Super League for Shanghai Shenhua.
The north London side have enquired about the possibility of a loan move, but they are not the only club interested as Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid are also monitoring the player.
In the 2019 Super League, the Italian, who has played at AS Roma and AC Milan, managed on average 1.9 successful dribbles and 1.4 shots per game, via WhoScored. He also scored one goal and two assists, a modest return for an attacking player.
However, El Shaarawy has an impressive track record over the course of his career, with 101 goals and 44 assists in 363 appearances, per Transfermarkt.
The real question is whether there is any need to bring another winger to the club, with the Gunners already well-stocked in that position with the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Bukayo Saka, Willian, Nicolas Pepe, Reiss Nelson and the injured Gabriel Martinelli.
Therefore, it seems unnecessary to bring El Shaarawy to Arsenal and they should instead target another position where squad depth is not so plentiful.
This, plus the fact that the player hasn’t really been at his best in China as he is yet to score in 2020, highlights that a move for the 27-year-old would not be a sensible one for the club to make.
