Arsenal defender Rob Holding has been involved in considerable transfer speculation recently, with Newcastle United reportedly close to signing him at one point.
However, this never came to fruition and it looks like another club are looking to sign the English centre-back.
According to The Sun, fellow Premier League side West Ham United are going to try and acquire Rob Holding on a loan deal, and they are willing to pay £5m to take him for the season. Irons manager David Moyes desperately wants a centre-back and this latest link suggests that they are struggling with their pursuit of Burnley defender James Tarkowski.
Holding has been at the Gunners since his £2.7m arrival from Bolton in 2016, per Transfermarkt. but injury struggles have deprived him of consistent game-time, as he missed 37 games in a row due to a cruciate ligament rupture in December 2018. He played 18 times in all competitions last season, with eight of those coming in the Premier League, per Transfermarkt.
However, he featured in the penalty shoot-out win against Liverpool in the Community Shield and he started in the first game of the Premier League season against Fulham, so he is enjoying plenty of recent game-time under Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal currently have substantial injury struggles in the centre-back position as Shkrodran Mustafi, David Luiz, Pablo Mari, Sokratis, and Calum Chambers are all unavailable at the moment.
Therefore, despite the lucrative loan fee that is reportedly being offered by West Ham, which seems like a lot to acquire a player for just one season, the Gunners need to be sensible here and make sure they keep Holding whilst they are deprived of multiple centre-backs through various injury concerns.
