Arsenal: Jordan gives verdict on Jorginho transfer

Jorginho

Arsenal are close to agreeing on a deal for Jorginho and TalkSport’s Simon Jordan has given his verdict on the potential transfer.

The Lowdown: Both clubs ‘willing’

Sky Sports recently reported that the Gunners were ‘hopeful’ that the switch will be completed before the transfer window shuts.

Jorginho has spent nearly five years with the Blues and played 215 times in all competitions.

Should the Brazilian finalise a move to north London, it would be manager Mikel Arteta’s third signing of the month. Brighton & Hove Albion’s Leandro Trossard and Jakub Kiwior of Spezia have joined the Premier League leaders.

The Latest: Trust the process

Jordan urged some Arsenal fans who may question the deal to trust the board’s decision when speaking to TalkSport.

He stated: “People will have to have a little bit of faith that there might be some thinking about the reasons why they want Jorginho.

“I understand prima facie, what it might look like in people’s minds: ‘0h, here we go with another Chelsea cast-off’.

“But quite frankly, Arsenal are doing very well and people should have just a bit of faith in the process, because the process has taken them to where they are now.

“They’ve also got to remember, when we think about it, when you actually look down and detail the analysis, they are a very young side.

The Verdict: Jorginho offers experience

We believe that signing Jorginho is not a disastrous move from Arsenal by any means, as this is a player who has a plethora of experience.

The 31-year-old, who has played at the top level in England and Italy, has also featured in the Champions League and Europa League.

He’s certainly had his plaudits over the years, with TalkSport’s Trevor Sinclair saying that the midfielder deserved to win the Ballon d’Or back in 2021, describing him as ‘instrumental’ in winning the Champions League for Chelsea and EURO 2020 with Italy.

Jorginho’s experience would be very important for a club like Arsenal in our view, as it’s a side brimming with young talent and the Italian could be a wise figure to have around the dressing room, while his career titles provide a wealth of experience.

Arsenal are leading the way in the Premier League title race and the midfielder knows how to win big trophies, so he could be a figure that Arteta can call upon in decisive moments between now and the end of the 2022/23 campaign.
