# Arsenal: Gunners hold internal ‘meeting’ for Joao Felix

**[Arsenal](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/arsenal-fc-news/) and Edu have held a behind-the-scenes ‘meeting’ regarding a potential move for Atletico Madrid forward [Joao Felix](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/joao-felix/), according to journalist [Rudy Galetti](https://twitter.com/RudyGaletti).**

### The Lowdown: Chelsea closing in

The Portuguese’s contract at the Metropolitano Stadium isn’t set to expire until [2026](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/atletico-madrid/berateruebersicht/verein/13), but after [reports](https://www.90min.com/posts/atletico-madrid-chief-huge-bombshell-joao-felix-future) suggested that he is looking to leave, the club’s chief executive Gil Marin has [hinted](https://www.90min.com/posts/atletico-madrid-chief-huge-bombshell-joao-felix-future) that his time could be coming to an end.

[Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) sides Manchester United and the Gunners have both been credited with an [interest](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1717989/Manchester-United-transfer-news-Joao-Felix-Atletico-Madrid-Jorge-Mendes) in the 23-year-old, though it’s Chelsea who now appear to be in pole position for his signature, with David Ornstein reporting a [‘verbal agreement’](https://twitter.com/David_Ornstein/status/1612477317351178244?s=20&t=u4sqbrRuWISta4nRSryG0w) with the Blues this week.

### The Latest: Arsenal talks

Taking to [Twitter](https://twitter.com/rudygaletti/status/1612128608683982849?s=46&t=2w5iIhvXUYMORAmeZIRZqw) on Sunday, Galetti revealed that Arsenal have held discussions with Felix’s agent Jorge Mendes regarding a possible switch to the Emirates Stadium.

*“Important meeting today between Arsenal and Mendes for Joao Felix. As told, AFC have the internal approval to speed up things with ‘good’ conditions.”*

### The Verdict: Alongside Mudryk?

Arsenal are [reportedly](https://www.teamtalk.com/arsenal/mykhaylo-mudryk-arsenal-fabrizio-romano-provides-major-update-mikel-arteta-transfer-confidence) closing in on the signing of Mykhaylo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk, and Felix could an excellent capture to follow in his footsteps and make the move to the capital.

The Viseu native has posted 52 goal contributions in 131 appearances for Atletico and is a versatile player with the ability to operate in three different positions ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joao-felix/leistungsdaten/spieler/462250)).

Felix has been [hailed](https://twitter.com/ftalentscout/status/1454933870265126919?s=46&t=BiPcDeLDIW6vZ01qSLpA2g) a ‘nightmare’ for defenders by [Jacek Kulig](https://twitter.com/FTalentScout), so whilst Chelsea appear to have jumped out in front, we would urge the Gunners to take another run at what could be a title-deciding signing.
