# Arsenal: Malcom approach denied by Barcelona, according to reports

**Reports emerging from Barcelona suggest that the club have not received any offers for winger Malcom – who has been linked with a possible approach from Arsenal.**

According to Mundo Deportivo (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/arsenal-have-not-positioned-themselves-to-sign-player-club-believes-gunners-will-not-make-offer/)), Catalunya Radio have claimed that Malcom wants to leave the Spanish champions following a meeting between the player’s agent and Barcelona officials.

A report in Spanish publication [Sport](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/malcom-resiste-salir-del-barca-elige-destino-7532211) earlier this month highlighted Malcom’s potential interest in a loan move to the Emirates Stadium, though Barcelona were thought to only be interested in a permanent switch so as to accrue funds for a possible transfer to secure former player Neymar’s return from Paris Saint-Germain.

That remains to be the case, per [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/arsenal-have-not-positioned-themselves-to-sign-player-club-believes-gunners-will-not-make-offer/), with Barcelona reportedly looking for around £50m for the Brazilian, having paid £36.9m for his signature (according to [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/malcom/transfers/spieler/323704)) when they signed him from Bordeaux less than 12 months ago.

The Sport Witness account also claims that Mundo Deportivo contacted the club over potential interest from The Gunners – to which Barcelona have denied any knowledge or expectation of an incoming bid from Arsenal for their player.

Malcom only featured [24 times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/malcom/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/323704/plus/0?saison=2018&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) for Barcelona last season – with just 11 of those being starts despite his big-money move from Ligue 1 last summer – which could explain his desire to leave Camp Nou.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have been on the lookout for a winger this summer, following reports of their as-yet unsuccessful pursuit of Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace after a [£40m bid](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/32461/11752748/arsenal-launch-40m-bid-for-crystal-palace-forward-wilfried-zaha) was made for the Ivorian attacker in recent weeks.

With the club reportedly under [financial restraints](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48278922) in this window, a loan move for Malcom could potentially be a more cost-effective solution for The Gunners as they look to seal other deals for the likes of [William Saliba](https://peuple-vert.fr/actualite/info-pvfr-mercato-william-saliba-part-pour-arsenal-contre-40-millions-deuros/) and [Dani Ceballos](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fichajes/20190716/463519502945/ceballos-real-madrid-arsenal.html) on a budget thought be around the £40m mark – as a result of them missing out on [Champions League](https://www.arsenal.com/first-team/tables?season=5895) qualification last season.

Though with these latest reports appearing to quash a possible move for Malcom, they may end up going into next season relying on Alex Iwobi and Reiss Nelson to take up [positions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-arsenal/kadernachposition/verein/11) on the wing, with the latter returning from [loan](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/reiss-nelson/transfers/spieler/340325) to boost The Gunners’ options in that area.
