Writing for the Athletic [following an interview](https://twitter.com/David_Ornstein/status/1293800903493988354?s=20) he did with the player, Ornstein has [reported](https://twitter.com/David_Ornstein/status/1293800903493988354?s=20) that Ozil wants to see out his contract at the club which is due to expire next summer. Ozil said he is fully fit to play and remains committed to the cause at the Emirates.

He also said that he rejected pay cut as it was rushed, pressured and left a lot of questions unanswered.

The former [World Cup winner](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mesut-ozil/profil/spieler/35664), who is on a reported [£350,000-a-week](https://talksport.com/football/711638/ozil-350k-contract-mistake-arsenal-bingham/) at the club has been [fully fit](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mesut-ozil/profil/spieler/35664) for most of the season, but did not [feature](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mesut-ozil/profil/spieler/35664) since football returned and on most occasions, he could not even [make](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mesut-ozil/profil/spieler/35664) the bench.

Ozil has not really given Arteta any reason as to why he should be picked when he has had his chances, as he has only managed one goal and two assists in all competitions last season, per [WhoScored.](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/13756/Show/Mesut-%C3%96zil)

His future at the club looks to be over, but over a calendar year, the player costs the club[£18.2 million](https://talksport.com/football/711638/ozil-350k-contract-mistake-arsenal-bingham/), and with the German wanting to stay, whilst Arteta doesn’t play him, the club are in the worst situation possible. Hopefully it is a lesson for them that they should think twice before offering their players huge contracts.

Nevertheless this update by Ornstein is a big one and finally tells Arsenal supporters what exactly is happening as the journalist managed to talk to the player directly.
