# Arsenal: Mohamed Elneny targeted by West Ham

**Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny has emerged as a potential transfer target for West Ham United, which could cost the Hammers up to €10m (£9m), according to a report from [Ahly News](https://en.ahly.news/2019/07/home-sports-west-ham-gives-nenny-last.html).**

The report claims that West Ham see Elneny as a potential replacement for Pedro Obiang, who is said to be nearing a move to Serie A.

It also suggests that the Gunners could look for a higher offer for the Egyptian, by negotiating a deal which would see Elneny take a pay cut, with the player currently on a salary of around [£50,000](https://www.spotrac.com/epl/arsenal-f.c/payroll/) a week.

Ahly News suggest further that Arsenal would be seeking a sizeable offer in order to commit added funds to their pursuit of Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha, following their [£40m bid](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/32461/11752748/arsenal-launch-40m-bid-for-crystal-palace-forward-wilfried-zaha) for the winger earlier this month.

Elneny has failed to break into the first-team on a consistent basis at Arsenal, with the midfielder featuring only 17 times for the Gunners [last season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mohamed-elneny/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/160438/plus/0?saison=2018&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=), registering just one assist in that time.

Having made [32 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mohamed-elneny/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/160438/plus/0?saison=2017&verein=11&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) in the season before, it looks as if the midfielder does not have a long-term future under Unai Emery at the Emirates Stadium.

And with the club said to only have around [£40m](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48278922) to spend this summer, the Gunners could be in need of further funds from player sales with their reported €40m deal for [William Saliba](https://peuple-vert.fr/actualite/info-pvfr-mercato-william-saliba-part-pour-arsenal-contre-40-millions-deuros/) close to completion and talks continuing following a £25m bid for Celtic’s [Kieran Tierney](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11787/11767883/arsenals-kieran-tierney-bid-linked-to-champions-league-place-not-favoured-by-celtic) – added to the previous sole arrival of [Gabriel Martinelli](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-arsenal/transfers/verein/11/saison_id/2019) in early July.

So Elneny may be a prime candidate to be shown the exit door as part of the latest phase of Emery’s Arsenal rebuild – which has seen the Spaniard integrate youngsters Eddie Nketiah and Joe Willock into the first team to some early [pre-season success](https://www.arsenal.com/fixture/arsenal/2019-Jul-18/bayern-munich-1-2-arsenal-match-report).

With the latter scoring in the Gunners’ recent victory over [Fiorentina](https://www.skysports.com/football/arsenal-vs-fiorentina/406718), it looks like Emery could even have a ready-made replacement in [central midfield](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-willock/profil/spieler/340329) for Elneny, which would possibly allow the Spaniard to focus on using his potential sale to secure targets in other positions.
