# Arsenal: Journalist claims ‘huge’ deal for Moises Caicedo is agreed

**[Arsenal](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/arsenal-fc-news/) have had a ‘huge single payment’ accepted for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo, claims journalist Jacque Talbot, despite Sky Sports reporting the new offer has not yet gone in.**

### The Lowdown: Arsenal chasing Caicedo

The Gunners have been hell-bent on signing Caicedo towards the end of the January transfer window, initially having a [£60m](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12796525/moises-caicedo-arsenal-make-60m-bid-for-brighton-midfielder-but-offer-expected-to-be-rejected) bid rejected, with his current club adamant that he is not for sale this month.

Arsenal remained undeterred, however, lodging a [£70m](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12798879/arsenal-transfer-news-gunners-70m-bid-for-moises-caicedo-rejected-by-brighton#:~:text=The%20Gunners%20also%20had%20their,a%20statement%20on%20social%20media.) bid for the Ecuadorian after he took to social media to make it [clear](https://twitter.com/MoisesCaicedo55/status/1619096366252437505?s=20&t=k9oKPAqVkwHuYFgAC-M3Ig) that he wanted to leave

And now, despite [also moving for Chelsea’s Jorginho](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/64466420), it looks as though Mikel Arteta could finally land Caicedo alongside the Italy international, depending on who you believe…

### The Latest: Deal agreed… or not?

Taking to Twitter to provide an [update](https://twitter.com/jac_talbot/status/1620315771309297664?s=20&t=i80JcZCErtR0fo03PVb96Q) on the situation earlier this morning, Talbot said: *“It’s my understanding Arsenal have lodged a third bid for Moisés Caicedo, a club-record. Huge single payment as one lump sum. Deal’s been agreed.”*

Sky Sports have [confirmed](https://twitter.com/skysports_sheth/status/1620356813429567488) Jorginho is not seen as an alternative to Caicedo, but Sky presenter [Jim White](https://twitter.com/JimWhite/status/1620338517011496963?s=20&t=Z2mH4mOBM8SSwO6goVGsfQ) does not believe a third bid has gone in, while colleague [Dharmesh Sheth](https://twitter.com/skysports_sheth/status/1620356813429567488) says it’s ‘very very very unlikely’ that Brighton will change their stance.

### The Verdict: Fantastic news if true

It is fantastic news for Arsenal if they have finally struck a deal with the Seagulls, as the 21-year-old could be a real boost in their push for a first [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) title since the Arsene Wenger era.

[Hailed](https://twitter.com/FTalentScout/status/1586386859457855489?s=20&t=k9oKPAqVkwHuYFgAC-M3Ig) as a ‘top player’ by football scout Jacek Kulig, the starlet is best known for his well-rounded defensive attributes, ranking in the [81st](https://fbref.com/en/players/16264a81/Moises-Caicedo) percentile for tackles and 76th percentile for interceptions per 90 over the past year, while he has also displayed his attacking prowess at times this season.

In Brighton’s resounding 4-1 win against Chelsea back in October, the midfielder created [one](https://www.sofascore.com/chelsea-brighton-and-hove-albion/FsN) big chance and made three key passes, indicating that his game is not limited to cutting out opposition attacks.

While shelling out a club-record fee is a risk for a player with just [26](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/moises-caicedo/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/687626) appearances to his name in the English top flight, having strength in depth could be the difference maker in Arsenal’s attempt to bring home the title.
