[The Daily Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/592930/Arsenal-Barcelona-Sergi-Samper-Transfer-News-Gossip) are saying that Arsene Wenger is ready to offer up the £8.4 million needed to activate the release clause of the young Spanish defensive midfielder.

The Spain under-21 international, who has been a regular in the Barcelona B side over the past few seasons is seen by many Arsenal fans as the perfect long-term replacement for current club captain Mikel Arteta.

At just 20, it is hard to imagine Samper turning down an offer from a side who like Barcelona can guarantee Champions League football, but are also much more likely to give him the first team football he will be craving.
