**With Arsenal set to land a stunning Bundesliga deal in the shape of** **Granit Xhaka, their fans are in dreamland at seeing their club actually going out and landing top talent.**

Well, much like their FA Cup success in 2013 and 2014, it appears the Gunners could be set for a quick-fire double.

According to *Foot Mercato* journalist Manu Lonjon, via [French Football News](https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2016/arsenal-in-talks-to-sign-medhi-benatia/), the North London giants are ready to make a blockbuster move for Bayern Munich defender Mehdi Benatia.

The 29-year old is one of the most elegant ball playing central defenders in the European game, though could see first-team opportunities limited with the arrival of Mats Hummels in Bavaria.

Defensive frailty has been a sewing motif at the Emirates for a number of years now and one of the major reasons preventing them from winning an elusive fourth Premier League title under the stewardship of Arsene Wenger.

While the report [claims](https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2016/arsenal-in-talks-to-sign-medhi-benatia/) talks are not at an advanced stage, initial discussions are underway between the two parties over the Roma defender.
