Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have met reports in [the Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/7077573/Arsene-Wenger-could-axe-up-to-nine-players-this-summer.html) suggesting they could overhaul up to NINE first-team stars with joyful applause.

Following yet another tragic title tilt, the Gunners are [reportedly](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/7077573/Arsene-Wenger-could-axe-up-to-nine-players-this-summer.html) set for a major summer clear out in an effort to finally win a fourth Premier League title under the stewardship of Arsene Wenger.

The report claims while up to £80m could be spent on player recruitment, much of the focus will be on clearing out the deadwood in North London.

England international Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are no strangers to the proverbial transfer rumour mill, having been linked with moves to [West Ham](https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2632024-insider-buzz-west-ham-want-theo-walcott-if-alex-oxlade-chamberlain-bid-fails) and [Southampton](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/alex-oxlade-chamberlain-southamptons-no1-7739539) respectively.

Fellow Three Lion Kieran Gibbs is also [believed to have become discontent](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2016/04/12/arsenal-will-listen-to-offers-for-alex-oxlade-chamberlain-and-ki/) with life behind Nacho Monreal in the pecking order.

Leicester City starlet Ben Chilwell is [understood](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/7077573/Arsene-Wenger-could-axe-up-to-nine-players-this-summer.html) to be a target in order to find cover and competition for the Spaniard.

World Cup winning defender Per Mertesacker is another top name [mentioned](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/7077573/Arsene-Wenger-could-axe-up-to-nine-players-this-summer.html), while midfield trio Mathieu Flamini, Tomas Rosicky and Mikel Arteta are expected to leave at the end of the season.

The latter is [believed](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3459848/Pep-Guardiola-offer-Mikel-Arteta-coaching-role-Manchester-City-Arsenal-midfielder-retires-end-season.html) to be a target of old friend Pep Guardiola, who wishes to add him to his coaching staff at Manchester City.

Mathieu Debuchy [could](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/7077573/Arsene-Wenger-could-axe-up-to-nine-players-this-summer.html) be another to leave permanently after his loan spell with Bordeaux, while one of David Ospina or Wojciech Szczesny [may](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/7077573/Arsene-Wenger-could-axe-up-to-nine-players-this-summer.html) be afforded a transfer away in an effort to land first-team football.

**Does even one player mentioned in the report have a realistic future with Arsenal? Is a huge clear out exactly what they need?**
