# Arsenal: Potential £44.8m Thomas Partey deal could be scuppered by fresh interest from Manchester United

**Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey would cost Arsenal £44.8m this summer if they can sign him, but late interest from Manchester United [could](https://metro.co.uk/2020/06/10/thomas-parteys-dad-sends-message-clubs-who-want-sign-arsenal-transfer-target-12834504/?ito=newsnow-feed) dent the Gunners’ hopes of getting the deal done.**

Partey has been influential for the Spanish club over the last few seasons, having [come through their youth system](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/thomas/transfers/spieler/230784). Appearing [174 times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/thomas/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/230784) for Atleti, the battling midfielder’s reputation has enhanced as Diego Simeone’s side continue to challenge both Barcelona and Real Madrid for the La Liga title and are a [regular force in the Champions League](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/atletico-madrid/pokalhistorie/verein/13).

The 26-year-old, who Simeone would undoubtedly love to keep at the Wanda Metropolitano, has now seen his future discussed, turning down a new contract offer which has seen interest come from the likes of Arsenal, as per [Guillem Balague on YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYkJcXHhVvWfjLqAdb9BCTA).

With rumours now circling, Partey’s father Jacob, who has been vocal in the past over his son’s future, has now confirmed that a deal can be done if the midfielder’s release clause is met. Despite his claims that will excite Arsenal boss Arteta, [Manchester Evening News](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/man-utd-thomas-partey-transfer-16287744) have reported that Man United are also showing interest in making a summer move for the Ghana international.

Speaking on radio station SilverFM \[via [Metro](https://metro.co.uk/2020/06/10/thomas-parteys-dad-sends-message-clubs-who-want-sign-arsenal-transfer-target-12834504/?ito=newsnow-feed)\], Jacob Partey said: *“My son’s current club Atletico Madrid has a release clause in Partey’s deal…this means that any club which shows interest in signing him must meet those demands.*

*“So any team which meets Atletico’s demand will be able to sign my son and not specifically Arsenal as rumoured in a section of the media. I always call my son and he is of age to decide on a move…I am ready to support his decision.”*

As previously reported by [Manchester Evening News](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/man-utd-thomas-partey-transfer-16287744), Partey’s release clause at Atletico Madrid is €50m, which equates to £44.8m.

Partey should make a superb signing for either Arsenal or Manchester United and it has to be argued that both sides need a player of his ability and hard work – he has averaged [3.6 tackles per game](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/238940/Show/Thomas-Partey) in the Champions League, far more than the [2.3 per game average](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/13/Show/England-Arsenal) of Ainsley Maitland-Niles, the Gunners’ market leader for this metric.

His ability to play defensive or attacking in midfield could hand Arteta a superb option at the base of midfield and his father’s comments have indicated that the 26-year-old could soon be on the move.
