# Arsenal: Gunners interested in signing Memphis Depay

**Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is looking to [strengthen his squad in several areas](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/arsenal-transfer-round-up-depay-22287679), and the latest transfer rumour sees the Gunners linked with Ligue 1 star Memphis Depay.**

According to [Le10Sport](https://le10sport.com/football/mercato/exclu-mercato-ol-arteta-arsenal-veut-memphis-depay-509285?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter), the summer transfer window will be a busy one for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta rates the Dutch winger highly, both for his technical qualities and his personality.

His contract at Lyon ends in June 2021 and [Arteta sees him](https://le10sport.com/football/mercato/exclu-mercato-ol-arteta-arsenal-veut-memphis-depay-509285?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter) as a possible replacement if either Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or Alexandre Lacazette leave.

In Ligue 1, Depay has had a very impressive season as he has made 13 appearances and scored nine goals whilst picking up two assists, per [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/PlayerComparison), whilst averaging 3.7 shots per game, 1.9 key passes a game and two successful dribbles per game. Those figures would very likely have been higher were it not for a season-ending [cruciate ligament injury](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/11887996/netherlands-memphis-depay-set-to-miss-euro-2020-after-rupturing-acl) last December.

The [26-year-old](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/memphis-depay/profil/spieler/167850) forward, who is valued at £39.6m by [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/memphis-depay/profil/spieler/167850), has already graced the Premier League with Manchester United, where he struggled to find his best form and managed only [two goals in 33 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/memphis-depay/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/167850/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/985) in his couple of seasons in the English top flight.

Despite struggling at Old Trafford, Depay now looks to be a more potent forward and his [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/PlayerComparison) statistics highlight how big an attacking threat he can provide when at his best.

The experience at the Red Devils should have been a good learning curve for him and, with Nicolas Pepe also being a winger who likes to take on defences ([2.4 successful dribbles](https://www.whoscored.com/PlayerComparison) per game), the Gunners could have a huge threat on either flank to keep their opponents very busy.

The two wingers could be ideal to play in the same starting XI and give Arsenal a fearsome attacking threat from both flanks.
