# Arsenal: Gunners join Manchester United in Cengiz Under transfer race

**Arsenal clearly look to be in the market for a winger judging by recent rumours, with Justin [Kluivert](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1297118/Arsenal-Justin-Kluivert-Contract-Offer-Transfer-Talks-Roma-Henrikh-Mkhitaryan-News) being linked. However it seems like they are also ready to attempt to sign his Roma team-mate Cengiz Under as an alternative option.**

According to the [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8435699/Manchester-United-join-Arsenal-battle-27m-rated-Roma-star-Cengiz-Under.html), [Arsenal](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/teampages/arsenal.html) are looking at the Roma winger in a possible £27m deal but face competition from Premier League rivals Manchester United.

The Red Devils see him as a cheaper alternative to Jadon Sancho and, with both teams desperate to improve their attacks, a deal involving Under could go down to the wire.

The 22 year-old has made 21 appearances this season, scoring four goals, whilst also averaging 1.7 shots,  1.3 key passes and 1.9 successful dribbles a game, as per [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/255071/Show/Cengiz-%C3%9Cnder).

Meanwhile, current Gunners winger Nicolas Pepe has had a better campaign in his debut season in the Premier League, [scoring](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/239872/Show/Nicolas-P%C3%A9p%C3%A9) four goals and picking up six assists in 37 appearances, whilst also [averaging](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/239872/Show/Nicolas-P%C3%A9p%C3%A9)  1.8 shots, 1.4 key passes and 2.7 successful dribbles a game.

Even though the Ivorian has had more appearances, his superior attacking averages suggest that he is having a better season than Under. Also, with [Bukayo Saka](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/arsenal-fc-transfer-rumours/bukayo-saka-profile/) [looking like](https://talksport.com/football/718302/man-city-vs-arsenal-confirmed-team-news-laporte-tierney/) he will get his chance in his favoured position on the wing, it is worth wondering whether Arsenal should be spending £27m on another winger who isn’t a discernible upgrade on what they already have.

Saka himself has [three goals and nine assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bukayo-saka/leistungsdaten/spieler/433177) to his name, with many of his appearances [at left-back](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bukayo-saka/leistungsdaten/spieler/433177), so it seems like Under would just be taking game-time away from two better players if he came to Arsenal.
