# Arsenal: Thiago Silva linked with move to Gunners

**As part of Mikel Arteta’s rebuild of Arsenal, he hopes to attract experienced defender Thiago Silva to the club in the summer transfer window.**

According to the [Evening Standard](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news-live-latest-rumours-gossip-today-man-united-arsenal-sancho-griezmann-thiago-silva-a4486286.html#post-1190628175) and backed previously by [Le10Sport](https://le10sport.com/football/mercato/exclu-mercato-psg-arsenal-debarque-pour-thiago-silva-509210), the Gunners believe they can beat the likes of Tottenham to the Brazilian’s signature due to the fact that current Arsenal star David Luiz has a great personal relationship with Silva, the duo having played together for [the national team and Paris Saint-Germain](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/thiago-silva/gemeinsameSpiele/spieler/29241/gegner/46741/kriterium/2/wettbewerb//liga/0/verein/0).

Silva looks set to become a free agent as a new contract with the French giants has not yet been agreed , and [90min](https://www.90min.com/posts/arsenal-everton-newcastle-west-ham-thiago-silva-contract) has reported in the past that Everton, Newcastle United, West Ham United and Wolves are all interested in him as well.

Silva has a wealth of experience in [Italy, Brazil and France](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/thiago-silva/detaillierteleistungsdaten/spieler/29241) as well as in the [Champions League](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/thiago-silva/detaillierteleistungsdaten/spieler/29241) as he has played 505 times at centre-back and has even managed to pick up 32 goals along the way, per [Transfermarkt.](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/thiago-silva/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/29241)

He also has a great winning mentality as he has won a very impressive [28 trophies](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/thiago-silva/erfolge/spieler/29241) throughout his career, with many seasons of being [captain](https://www.transfermarkt.com/psg-plan-new-season-without-captain-thiago-silva-contract-expires-after-eight-years/view/news/362371) whilst collecting such silverware.

Even though he is 35 years old, his experience and winning mentality could be vital for the Gunners and Arteta as they would have a proper leader at the back who could help push Arsenal [up the table](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) and, instead of battling for sixth place, be in the hunt for Champions League qualification.

With Arsenal now using [five at the back](https://www.sofascore.com/arsenal-sheffield-united/psR), Silva could still do a great job in the centre as he should be able to command the defence around him. The Gunners have only [kept](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/clubs/clean_sheet?se=274) nine clean sheets in 32 Premier League games, with their defensive deficiencies being called out by the likes of [Alan Shearer](https://www.goal.com/en-qa/news/so-bad-its-unbelievable-shearer-slams-arsenals-defence-and/1eccznd06mdhs1b7w0d1la2qrb) and [Martin Keown](https://metro.co.uk/2019/09/16/martin-keown-slams-arsenal-defence-after-horrific-second-half-against-watford-10750586/) in recent months.

Therefore, if they are able to get Silva even for only a couple of years, his experience and winning mindset could help to stabilise Arsenal’s much-maligned defence and remedy what has been a major problem for them.
