# Aston Villa: Ashley Preece reacts to club tweet on Marvelous Nakamba

**Aston Villa correspondent [Ashley Preece](https://twitter.com/PreeceObserver/status/1496871037149097987) has been reacting to a tweet from the club on injured midfielder Marvelous Nakamba.**

### The Lowdown: Nakamba’s absence

The player suffered a serious knee injury against Liverpool back in December and hasn’t been seen in a Villa shirt since.

The 28-year-old has had [surgery](https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2021/december/17/nakamba-ruled-out-for-3-4-months/) to repair the problem, with the club expecting the holding midfielder to be sidelined for [three to four months](https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2021/december/17/nakamba-ruled-out-for-3-4-months/).

Nakamba missed representing Zimbabwe at the Africa Cup of Nations due to his injury and has now been [talking](https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2022/february/24/nakamba--i-ll-be-back-stronger-/) to Villa’s media team.

### The Latest: Preece reacts to Villa’s tweet on Nakamba

Villa shared a clip of a smiling Nakamba on their [official Twitter channel](https://twitter.com/AVFCOfficial/status/1496870254697451523) on Thursday afternoon and it elicited a gleeful response from Preece, who labelled it ‘brilliant’.

The journalist quote-tweeted the club’s post, saying: “Tears in my eyes! Brilliant to see Marvelous back smiling and amongst it at Bodymoor. His rehab is going well!”

### The Verdict: Villa need him back

Nakamba, who Dean Smith described as [‘very mobile’](https://www.avfc.co.uk/News/2019/08/01/marvelous-nakamba-sings-for-aston-villa), is needed back in Steven Gerrard’s squad.

Villa have struggled in recent months, winning just [one](https://www.skysports.com/aston-villa-results) of their last [seven](https://www.skysports.com/aston-villa-results) Premier League fixtures, with midfielder Douglas Luiz coming in for criticism from both [Preece](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/aston-villa-news/ashley-preece-slams-douglas-luiz-newcastle/) and [Gregg Evans](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/aston-villa-news/aston-villa-gregg-evans-slams-douglas-luiz-vs-watford/) this month.

Hopefully Nakamba will make a return in March after three months out, and judging by the poor start to 2022, it seems as if the club could do with having their [November Player of the Month](https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2021/december/03/marvelous-nakamba-avfc-player-of-the-month/) back for the final few months of the season.
