# Aston Villa: Villans linked with Ben Brereton Diaz

**[Aston Villa](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/aston-villa-news/) are eyeing a move for Blackburn Rovers forward Ben Brereton Diaz, according to TEAMtalk.**

### The Lowdown: Brereton Diaz profiled

Brereton Diaz, hailed as a [‘beast’](https://www.rovers.co.uk/news/2020/july/boss-buoyed-by-new-look-brereton/) by former Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray, is [primarily](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-brereton-diaz/profil/spieler/426192) a centre-forward but can also play on either wing.

The 23-year-old has scored [46](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-brereton-diaz/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/426192) senior goals for club and country – [22](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-brereton-diaz/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/426192) of which came in the Championship last season.

Described as the [‘face of Pepsi’](https://twitter.com/stujames75/status/1421727979881877513) in Chile due to massive marketing campaigns following his international success, Brereton Diaz is into the final 12 months of his Blackburn [deal](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-brereton-diaz/profil/spieler/426192) and is [unlikely](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12679141/ben-brereton-diaz-not-interested-in-signing-new-blackburn-rovers-contract-after-nice-transfer-bid-was-rejected) to pen new terms, and it looks as if Villa are one side keen on his services.

### The Latest: Villa interest

[TEAMtalk](https://www.teamtalk.com/blackburn-rovers/laliga-side-hatch-ben-brereton-diaz-plan-that-blackburn-will-be-furious-with) provided a transfer update regarding Brereton Diaz on Tuesday morning. They claimed that Spanish side Sevilla are eyeing a move in the January window when the forward could sign a pre-contract agreement.

However, the report also said that Villa, Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest and West Ham are ‘checking’ on the player but have ‘baulked at the asking price’.

### The Verdict: Sarr alternative?

It appears as if NSWE and Johan Lange are on the hunt for a new marquee attacker before the window closes, with a move for Ismaila Sarr recently [falling through](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/aston-villa-news/aston-villa-transfer-news-ismaila-sarr-deal-collapses-steven-gerrard/).

Villa agreed on a £25m deal for Sarr, and you’d expect that Brereton Diaz could be cheaper due to his contract situation and £14.4m [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-brereton-diaz/profil/spieler/426192) valuation.

He’s just come off his best season in front of goal and has already netted [twice](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-brereton-diaz/leistungsdaten/spieler/426192) during the current campaign playing on the left, so he may prove to be a smart alternative despite initially baulking at the asking price.
