# Aston Villa: Could struggle to sign Harry Wilson

**Aston Villa could struggle to sign Harry Wilson, after Liverpool set their stance on the Welshman, as reported by [The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-name-price-harry-wilson-18783508).**

Alongside Newcastle, Villa have [**held an interest**](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-name-price-harry-wilson-18783508)in the 22-year-old this summer, though Liverpool have outlined he won’t be loaned out again, having had spells with Derby County and Hull City.

They have also placed a [**£25 million price tag**](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-name-price-harry-wilson-18783508) on the Welshman, with Jurgen Klopp keen to keep him at Anfield, explaining to the player that he sees him getting plenty of minutes – especially at the beginning of the season, with some of the club’s big-name attacking talents having featured in international tournaments this summer.

Wilson started 46 games while on loan with Derby last season, coming off the bench three times, scoring 18 goals and assisting six, as per [**Transfermarkt**](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harry-wilson/leistungsdaten/spieler/279455/saison/2018/plus/1#gesamt).

Villa were one of the few teams he didn’t get much joy against, as he [**failed to score**](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harry-wilson/leistungsdaten/spieler/279455/saison/2018/plus/1#gesamt) in any of their three encounters, with Villa coming out on top each time – most significantly in the play-off final.

Wilson operated on each wing and in central midfield last season, featuring most prominently on the right wing, playing there [**23 times**](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harry-wilson/leistungsdaten/spieler/279455/saison/2018#gesamt).

This is likely where he would mainly feature if he was to move to Villa Park, with Trezeguet and Anwar El Ghazi fighting to start on the left, while Jack Grealish and John McGinn can be the progressive central midfielders.

That scenario would leave Wilson to compete with Jota, who [**started 33 games**](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jota/leistungsdaten/spieler/176591/saison/2018/plus/1#gesamt) for Villa’s local rivals Birmingham City, coming on as a substitute eight times, scoring three goals and assisting nine.

These numbers highlight that Wilson had a far greater impact in the final third than Jota last season.

Signing Wilson would be a great move for Villa, continuing the club’s main method this transfer window of giving promising players their first real opportunity in the Premier League. As well as Trezeguet, Dean Smith has also added the likes of Wesley and Ezri Konsa to his squad.

However, this will be a difficult move for the club to complete due to Liverpool’s stance, while they must also decide if £25 million is a fee they can part with in order to secure his signature.
