# Aston Villa: Dean Jones claims Ollie Watkins could still leave

**[Aston Villa](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/aston-villa-news/) forward Ollie Watkins could still seal a late move away from the club, according to transfer insider [Dean Jones](https://twitter.com/DeanJonesSoccer?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor).**

### The Lowdown: Luiz rumours

Villa could be in for a busy deadline day in regards to both incomings and outgoings at Bodymoor Heath.

Douglas Luiz has been linked with moves to [Atletico Madrid](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11162751/Douglas-Luiz-drawing-Atletico-Madrid-just-one-year-remaining-contract.html) and [Liverpool](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1662525/Liverpool-make-20m-Douglas-Luiz-bid-Steven-Gerrard-favour-Aston-Villa-transfer-news) in recent days, with the midfielder into the final 12 months of his Villa [contract](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/douglas-luiz/profil/spieler/447661).

Watkins, who Gregg Evans labelled as the [‘real deal’](https://thisisfutbol.com/2020/10/blogs/premier-league/aston-villa-gregg-evans-heaps-praise-on-ollie-watkins-aston-villa-ollie-watkins-brentford/), is another Villa player who has been linked with an exit this month, and Jones has had this to say on a potential move.

### The Latest: Jones’ comments

Talking to [GiveMeSport](https://www.givemesport.com/88053760-aston-villa-75k-a-week-star-has-friction-with-gerrard-at-villa-park), Jones had this to say about Watkins’ future, claiming there’s ‘still a possibility’ he could leave Villa Park, providing a replacement is lined up.

> “There is also still a possibility that Watkins leaves.
>
> “They probably wouldn’t do that unless they had a replacement lined up, but they have had enquiries over Watkins and there has been a bit of friction between him and Steven Gerrard.”

### The Verdict: One to watch

[Everton](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-news/aston-villa-transfer-news-watkins-premier-league/), [Leeds](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/leeds-jesse-marschs-side-monitoring-ollie-watkins/) and [Crystal Palace](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/leeds-jesse-marschs-side-monitoring-ollie-watkins/) have all been linked with Watkins in recent weeks, however, you’d expect that a deadline day exit is unlikely.

A lot would need to happen relatively quickly in order for a move away to materialise, even with reports suggesting that Watkins and Steven Gerrard [‘do not see eye to eye’](https://www.footballinsider247.com/aston-villa-watkins-sources/).

Villa would need to bring in a replacement first before looking at selling Watkins, as Jones mentions, otherwise, Gerrard would be left with just Danny Ings and youngster Cameron Archer as central [options](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aston-villa/kader/verein/405).

It could be one to watch, but with time ticking, it seems more realistic that Watkins will remain at the club beyond the deadline.
