# Aston Villa: Fans erupt at Danny Ings signing

**Aston Villa [confirmed](https://twitter.com/AVFCOfficial/status/1422975313190035459) the signing of Southampton striker Danny Ings on Wednesday evening.**

And, with no rumours of a transfer beforehand, the confirmation led to a number of Villa supporters going wild on social media.

Ings put pen to paper on a [three-year](https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2021/august/Villa-announce-Danny-Ings-signing/) deal at Villa Park, with a move thought to be costing Villa [£25m](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11677/12372804/danny-ings-aston-villa-sign-southampton-forward-for-undisclosed-fee).

The [5 foot 8](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/danny-ings/profil/spieler/134294) forward becomes Villa’s [fourth](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aston-villa/transfers/verein/405) summer signing and you’d expect the Englishman may rival Ollie Watkins for a starting spot under Dean Smith, who also has Wesley Moraes in his [ranks](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aston-villa/kader/verein/405).

Ings has scored [34](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/danny-ings/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/134294) Premier League goals in the past two seasons and leaves Southampton after making [100](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/danny-ings/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/134294) appearances.

The 29-year-old [turned down](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57718108) a new Saints contract earlier in the summer, which would have made him the club’s [best-paid player](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57718108), but he is now a Villa man after an under-the-radar deal went through on Wednesday.

**“I may be in the minority… but not a fan of this signing. So Watkins wide or we play 352? 30 mil for a 30 year old with injuries who’s had one good season? We are panic buying.”**
