# Aston Villa: Fans far from impressed with John McGinn for Newcastle United performance

**John McGinn’s rise from the Scottish second division to Premier League football has been well-documented since Aston Villa’s promotion to the top tier in England but it’s fair to say the former Hibernian man got his fair share of criticism last night.**

While the Midlands giants did manage to put former manager Steve Bruce to the sword in a relatively comfortable 2-0 victory at Villa Park last night, the man who has seen his form reportedly (via the [Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/9598604/sir-alex-ferguson-man-utd-aston-villa-john-mcginn/)) admired by the likes of Manchester United didn’t quite have the impact some may have expected.

McGinn lost the ball three times (via [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1376017/LiveStatistics/England-Premier-League-2019-2020-Aston-Villa-Newcastle-United)), took 2 unsuccessful touches and was unable to complete a successful dribble which is a disappointing return given he’s been averaging [2.5](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/318449/Show/John-McGinn) of those per Premier League game this year. Indeed, the [Birmingham Mail](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aston-villa-player-ratings-grealish-17315822) also noted how he was ‘out-done’ by his teammates, with the likes of Jack Grealish and Conor Hourihane making [far more](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1376017/LiveStatistics/England-Premier-League-2019-2020-Aston-Villa-Newcastle-United) key passes than him last night.

Usually a rather popular player amongst the Villa support, here’s a look at what some of them made of his outing.
