# Aston Villa: Fans gush over Matty Cash’s performance during Leeds defeat

**Plenty of [Aston Villa](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league/aston-villa/) fans were delighted with defender [Matty Cash](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/matty-cash/) despite their side falling short against Leeds United on Friday night.**

Dean Smith’s side had the opportunity to go top of the Premier League table and maintain their 100% record. But Marcelo Bielsa’s side, and Patrick Bamford in particular, [had other ideas](https://www.theguardian.com/football/live/2020/oct/23/aston-villa-v-leeds-united-premier-league-live).

Despite the defeat, the Holte End faithful found positives that they could take forward in their right-back, who [arrived](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/aston-villa-transfer-rumours/aston-villa-matty-cash-14m-signing-from-nottingham-forest-has-supporters-drooling/) at the club from Nottingham Forest for [£16m](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54009058#:~:text=Aston%20Villa%20have%20signed%20right,141%20appearances%20for%20the%20club.) in the summer and has started every game for Smith so far this season.

Smith described Cash as “one of England’s brightest young prospects” (via [VillaTV](https://www.avfc.co.uk/News/2020/09/03/villa-announce-cash)) and could be in a position where he is attracting the attention of Gareth Southgate soon if he continues to perform at a similar level.

In what was a night to forget for the Villa fans, they were still pleased with the way that Cash performed and made their feelings clear on social media as the game went on.
