# Aston Villa: Fans laud Martinez after his latest comments

**Some observers were surprised when [Emiliano Martinez](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/emiliano-martinez/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/111873) made the move from Arsenal to Aston Villa. However, with Dean Smith’s side thrashing the Gunners [3-0](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2020/11/08/arsenal-vs-aston-villa-premier-league-live-score-latest-updates/) and having a good start to the season, it looks like the goalkeeper has made a wise choice.**

His latest comments on the move have seen many fans of the club fall in love with him even more.

Speaking to the [Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/), Martinez said: “They were all saying it was a step down in my career, but I always said it was a step up. I decided to come to Villa because I trusted the manager & the ambitions, & I knew how big Villa are. Some people do not realise how big Aston Villa are.”

The Argentinian has had a great start for his new club, featuring seven times in the [Premier League](https://www.premierleague.com/players/4245/Emiliano-Mart%C3%ADnez/stats?co=1&se=363), keeping four clean sheets, and making 22 saves. This has even led to one fan calling him a ‘hero’.

The club have won [five of their seven](https://www.premierleague.com/players/4245/Emiliano-Mart%C3%ADnez/stats?co=1&se=363) games, and having a confident goalkeeper with a lot more quality has seemed to make a ‘huge difference’ as one fan pointed out.

Villa currently sit in [sixth](https://www.sofascore.com/tournament/football/england/premier-league/17) place in the table, and even though it is only early in the season, it is a big change from last season which saw them only stay up on the [final day](https://www.goal.com/en/news/watford-and-bournemouth-relegated-on-premier-league-final-day-as-/19wuli0lpz5j21d9jit0cd1dv7).
