# Aston Villa: Fans react to Aaron Hickey update

**Aston Villa are thought to be [leading](https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/celtic/aaron-hickey-ex-rangers-boss-steven-gerrard-leading-race-for-celtic-linked-full-back-3509654) Celtic in the race to sign Bologna left-back Aaron Hickey in January.**

The Serie A side will hold a transfer meeting on January 6 to discuss Hickey’s future, according to [Tuttosport](https://www.tuttosport.com/), via [Total Villa](https://twitter.com/Total_Villa/status/1476181218467188739).

And, as to be expected, a number of Villa fans have been reacting to the news on social media.

Steven Gerrard has been [promised](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/inside-steven-gerrard-aston-villa-25429141) a huge winter window kitty by NSWE and is thought to be an [admirer](https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/celtic/aaron-hickey-ex-rangers-boss-steven-gerrard-leading-race-for-celtic-linked-full-back-3509654) of Hickey, who swapped Scotland for Italy in [2020](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aaron-hickey/transfers/spieler/591949).

Labelled as a player with [‘quality’](https://www.edinburghlive.co.uk/sport/football/aaron-hickeys-bologna-debut-draws-19015320) by Bologna manager Sinisa Mihajlovic, the 19-year-old has made [31](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aaron-hickey/leistungsdaten/spieler/591949) appearances for the club – [19](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aaron-hickey/leistungsdaten/spieler/591949) of which have come this season.

Villa currently have [two](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aston-villa/kader/verein/405) options at left-back in Matt Targett and Ashley Young, but it seems as if they are thinking long-term when looking at a move for Hickey, who is thriving in a top European league at just 19 years of age.
