# Aston Villa: Fans react to Douglas Luiz claim

**Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz is a long-term target for Arsenal.**

That’s according to [The Athletic’s David Ornstein](https://twitter.com/TheAthleticUK/status/1485892949036650498), which, as to be expected, has had a number of Villa fans talking on social media.

Luiz, who was [linked](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/aston-villa-transfer-rumours/aston-villa-roma-linked-with-douglas-luiz/) with a move to AS Roma over the summer, has been a [regular](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/douglas-luiz/leistungsdaten/spieler/447661) under Steven Gerrard in recent months, missing just [one](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/douglas-luiz/leistungsdaten/spieler/447661) Premier League game under the Villa boss.

Out of contract in 2023, the 23-year-old has seen his [market value](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/douglas-luiz/marktwertverlauf/spieler/447661) rocket from £9m to £31.5m during his time as a Villa player and is seemingly catching the eye of Mikel Arteta.

According to reliable reporter [Ornstein](https://twitter.com/TheAthleticUK/status/1485892949036650498), Luiz, along with RB Leipzig’s Tyler Adams and Wolves’ Ruben Neves, is a long-term midfield target, while a new forward is Arsenal’s main focus in the final days of the current window.

### Villa fans react

[The AVFC Faithful](https://twitter.com/AVFCFaithful_/status/1485919791672180737) relayed [Ornstein](https://twitter.com/TheAthleticUK/status/1485892949036650498)’s claim regarding Luiz on Twitter. This is what these Villa supporters had to say in reply, with split views and one labelling it as ‘interesting’, given their [past dealings](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11670/12343899/emile-smith-rowe-arsenal-reject-aston-villas-second-transfer-bid-worth-30m-for-midfielder) with the Gunners involving Emile Smith-Rowe.
