# Aston Villa: Fans react to Douglas Luiz report

**Manchester City are unlikely to trigger their buy-back clause on Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz this summer with Fernandinho set to remain part of the squad, according to a report from the [Telegraph’s Mike McGrath](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2021/05/11/transfer-notebook-arsenal-weigh-move-moussa-dembele-mikel-arteta/?utm_content=football&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=Echobox&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1620733185).**

City [have the option](https://www.si.com/soccer/manchestercity/news/man-city-identify-buy-out-clause-as-leverage-in-pursuit-of-aston-villa-captain-jack-grealish-this-summer#:~:text=Luiz%2C%20who%20moved%20away%20from,him%20back%20to%20the%20club.) until June to bring Luiz back to the Etihad for a fee of £25million.

Luiz was guilty of making what former Premier League star David Meyler called a [‘stupid tackle’](https://twitter.com/DavidMeyler/status/1391396504519254017) as Villa surrendered the lead in a 3-1 defeat against Manchester United last Sunday.

But that was a difficult moment in what’s largely been an [‘outstanding season’](https://www.footballinsider247.com/robinson-worried-by-what-hes-seen-from-luiz-at-aston-villa-after-embarrassing-reveal/), in the words of Sky Sports pundit Paul Robinson.

### How has Villa’s Luiz performed in 2020/21?

Luiz has made [30 appearances](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/337883/Show/Douglas-Luiz) for the Villans this season.

The defensive midfielder has averaged 1.5 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 1.3 clearances and 1.4 successful aerial duels per 90 minutes (via [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/337883/Show/Douglas-Luiz)).

He’s helped Villa progress from relegation candidates to a side with top-half ambitions.

Fan feed [Villa Report](https://twitter.com/villareport/status/1392084934265802761) relayed the detail from McGrath’s aforementioned report, and here’s how fans reacted.
