# Aston Villa: Fans react to Evans’ claim on Ings

**Aston Villa paid Southampton £30m for striker Danny Ings, according to reliable reporter [Gregg Evans](https://twitter.com/greggevans40/status/1422978144760385551).**

And a number of Villa supporters have been sharing their negative thoughts at the figure on social media.

The 29-year-old was [announced](https://twitter.com/AVFCOfficial/status/1422975313190035459) as a Villa player on Wednesday evening out of nowhere, penning a [three-year](https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2021/august/Villa-announce-Danny-Ings-signing/) deal at Villa Park.

Both [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11677/12372804/danny-ings-aston-villa-sign-southampton-forward-for-undisclosed-fee) and [BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/58093362) believed a deal cost in the region of £25m, however, [Evans](https://twitter.com/greggevans40/status/1422978144760385551), who writes for The Athletic, claimed a move cost Villa £30m.

Ings became Villa’s [fourth](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aston-villa/transfers/verein/405) summer signing after moves for Emiliano Buendia, Ashley Young and Leon Bailey and bolsters Dean Smith’s ranks going forward with Jack Grealish now a [Manchester City player](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57818660).
