**Plenty of Aston Villa fans have been reacting to the club’s reported interest in Stade de Reims left-back Ghislain Konan.**

According to the [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9591433/Southampton-ready-battle-Aston-Villa-5-5m-Reims-defender-Ghislain-Konan.html), Villa are monitoring the 25-year-old, who is thought to be open to a Premier League switch this summer.

Southampton are also thought to be keen on Konan, who would cost around [£5.1m](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9591433/Southampton-ready-battle-Aston-Villa-5-5m-Reims-defender-Ghislain-Konan.html).

The [Ivory Coast international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ghislain-konan/leistungsdaten/spieler/422850) has been a regular for Reims this season, making [32](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ghislain-konan/leistungsdaten/spieler/422850) appearances in all competitions. He’s scored [twice and provided one assist this season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ghislain-konan/leistungsdaten/spieler/422850), and should he move to the Midlands, he could provide competition to Matt Targett.

Targett has starred under Dean Smith during the current campaign, [starting every league fixture in the 2020/21 season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/matt-targett/leistungsdaten/spieler/250478), and was rewarded with a contract extension through to [2025](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56936723) last month.
