# Aston Villa: Fans react to Heaton update

**Aston Villa goalkeeper Tom Heaton is considering leaving the club in the summer in search of regular game time.**

That’s according to the reliable [Gregg Evans from The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/2497695/2021/04/06/tom-heaton-aston-villa-future/), with his claims grabbing the attention of numerous Villa supporters online.

Heaton has made just [20](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tom-heaton/leistungsdaten/spieler/34130) appearances for the club since joining from [Burnley in 2019](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tom-heaton/transfers/spieler/34130), with Emiliano Martinez establishing himself as Dean Smith’s number one.

The Englishman actually suffered a [serious knee injury against his former side last year](https://www.lancs.live/sport/football/football-news/aston-villa-tom-heaton-injury-19249872) and hasn’t featured for the club since.

Heaton has been [on the bench since December](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tom-heaton/leistungsdaten/spieler/34130), but [even though Villa will offer him an extension](https://theathletic.com/2497695/2021/04/06/tom-heaton-aston-villa-future/), it seems as if he’ll consider a permanent exit in the summer. His current deal, worth [£42,000-a-week](https://www.spotrac.com/epl/aston-villa-fc/payroll/), still has [two years left to run](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tom-heaton/profil/spieler/34130).
