# Aston Villa: Fans react to James Ward-Prowse update

**Southampton are [reportedly](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/southampton-set-price-aston-villa-21342155) asking for £50m for Aston Villa target James Ward-Prowse this summer.**

And, as to be expected, a number of Villa fans have been reacting to the news on social media.

Villa were first [linked](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jun/06/aston-villa-set-to-make-move-for-southamptons-james-ward-prowse-transfer-window) with a move for the [Saints captain](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/james-ward-prowse/profil/spieler/181579) at the beginning of June.

They have since made [five](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aston-villa/transfers/verein/405) first-team additions and have even had a [£25m](https://twitter.com/David_Ornstein/status/1421106407789764609) offer turned down for Ward-Prowse during that time.

The Saints were insisting that the 26-year-old was [not for sale](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9657179/Aston-Villa-set-bid-Southamptons-James-Ward-Prowse-closing-40m-Emi-Buendia.html) this summer, however, that may well have changed.

According to [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/2746128/2021/08/18/how-to-spend-a-record-transfer-fee/), relayed by [Birmingham Live](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/southampton-set-price-aston-villa-21342155), Southampton are demanding £50m for the central midfielder – half of the figure what took Jack Grealish to Manchester City.
