# Aston Villa: Fans react to Leon Bailey update

**Aston Villa manager Dean Smith provided an [update](https://twitter.com/AVFCOfficial/status/1443873985977110543) on injured winger Leon Bailey ahead of the club’s trip to Tottenham on Sunday.**

And a number of Villa supporters have been reacting to the news on social media.

Bailey starred on his first Villa Park appearance, netting his [first](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leon-bailey/leistungsdaten/spieler/387626) goal for the club in a 3-0 victory over Everton.

However, after coming on as a [substitute](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aston-villa_everton-fc/index/spielbericht/3591961), the Jamaican had to be [replaced](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aston-villa_everton-fc/index/spielbericht/3591961) with a thigh problem and hasn’t been seen since.

He missed the win at Old Trafford over Manchester United, with the club [confirming](https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2021/september/Smith-issues-injury-updates/) a thigh strain which is set to keep him out until after the international break.

The 24-year-old won’t make the trip to north London on Sunday, however, Smith found the time to give an update on his situation in his pre-match press conference.

Smith [admitted](https://twitter.com/AVFCOfficial/status/1443873985977110543) that he is ‘hopeful’ Bailey will return to Bodymoor Heath training during the international break, with a further assessment expected.
