# Aston Villa: Fans react to Rico Henry interest

**Many Aston Villa fans have reacted to a [transfer report](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/12685811/aston-villa-brentford-rico-henry/?utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=sunfootballtwitter&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1600265429) linking Dean Smith with a potential bid for Brentford defender Rico Henry.**

Born in Birmingham, Henry developed through Walsall’s academy setup before making a number of appearances for them at first team level which saw him attract the interest of Brentford.

Moving to Griffin Park in [2016](https://www.brentfordfc.co.uk/news/article/2016-17/england-youth-interntional-rico-henry-joins-brentford-from-walsall-3283906.aspx), the England youth international is a favourite of Smith’s, with the pair working together at Walsall before his switch to the Bees.

Performing [well](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/rico-henry/profil/spieler/339556) for the Championship side, who almost gained promotion to the Premier League last term, Henry is now being linked with a potential third spell under Smith.

Villa, who narrowly avoided relegation last season, have been busy bolstering their squad options this summer, bringing in [Matty Cash](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/aston-villa-transfer-rumours/aston-villa-matty-cash-14m-signing-from-nottingham-forest-has-supporters-drooling/) from Nottingham Forest and [Ollie Watkins](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/aston-villa-news/villa-fans-rejoice-ollie-watkins-signing/) from Brentford.

The latter signing could open up negotiations between Villa and the Championship side for a deal for Henry and The Sun’s Duncan Wright has now added weight to the rumour, claiming Smith wants to submit a late bid before the transfer window closes on October 16.

Reacting to Wright’s tweet which was shared by Villa’s fan account @villareport on Twitter, fans issued responses like the below…

> Good player, but I think we need to ship out a few (Nyland, Kalinic, Taylor, Lansbury, El Ghazi, Samatta) before buying even more players.
