# Aston Villa: Fans react to Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek loan links

**Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has been linked with loan moves for Chelsea midfielders Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek as he plans to find a new ‘number 8’.**

The 2019/2020 season offered Villa fans a rather bumpy ride as the Midlands outfit fought off relegation with a final day draw against West Ham United.

Smith has looked to change things this time around and an opening day win over Sheffield United has kick-started their season so far.

Matched with that impressive three points, Villa have also signed a number of new additions, including [Ollie Watkins from Brentford, Matty Cash from Nottingham Forest, Emiliano Martinez from Arsenal and most recently Bertrand Traore from French side Lyon.](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aston-villa/transfers/verein/405)

With the transfer window open until mid-October, reports are further emerging with claims Smith wants to add another new face to his side.

[John Percy from The Telegraph](https://twitter.com/JPercyTelegraph) claims Smith wants to find a [new number 8 and that a potential loan deal for either Barkley or Loftus-Cheek has been mentioned.](https://t.co/wA5vzeTlRh?amp=1)

Reacting to the transfer report, Villa fans took to Twitter account @villareport to give an opinion on a potential move for the England international duo. It seems that fans would be happy with either, indeed both have great pedigree. [Barkley has won](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ross-barkley/profil/spieler/131978) the FA Cup and Europa League whilst having 33 England caps to his name, whilst [Loftus-Cheek](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ruben-loftus-cheek/profil/spieler/202886) has made 10 appearances for the Three Lions and has won two Premier League titles.
