# Aston Villa: Fans react to Wesley comparison with Benteke, Carew and Angel

**Lots of Aston Villa fans have been reacting to some statistics that suggest Wesley’s poor start to life in the Midlands may not be a sign of what’s to come.**

When you spend [£22m](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/heres-how-much-wesley-moraes-16523152) on a centre-forward they are expected to fire in the goals to keep you in the Premier League.

Unfortunately for Wesley and Villa, that simply hasn’t happened so far, as the 23 year-old has found the net just [four times](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/328362/Show/Wesley) in 16 appearances.

Fans have [slammed](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league/aston-villa/aston-villa-fans-fume-at-wesley-performance-against-leicester/) the former Club Brugge man for his performances in recent times – he earned just a 6.39 out of 10 rating from [Whoscored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/328362/Show/Wesley) in the 4-1 defeat to Leicester on Sunday.

However, some stats from [@TheVillaVision](https://twitter.com/TheVillaVision/status/1204037865484800001) show he may yet find the form that tempted the club to spend all that money on him.

The Villa fan page shows that Wesley’s scoring record in his opening 16 matches is surprisingly similar to some very popular figures at the club.

The most recent of which is of course Christian Benteke, who slammed in [49 goals in 101 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christian-benteke/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/50201) in a Villa shirt.

Fans are split on the matter, and you can find some of the best responses down below…

> Whilst I agree the return hasn’t been great, we need to give the man a chance, give the man a supply of goal poaching crosses and he will flourish.\
> He is starved of supply.\
> I would be tempted to play Jack right in behind Wes, put El Ghazi on the left wing, Trezeguet on the right.

> It’s not goals that’s problem. His overall play is shocking, first touch is atrocious and he falls to the floor to often for a big man. Also cost 22 million so people expect more. I hope he does well though up the wesley [pic.twitter.com/VrcK7tQ01a](https://t.co/VrcK7tQ01a)

> Instead of coming up with silly stats maybe actually go and watch him play ? He is dreadful

> All turned out to be class strikers, give Wes time and get behind him

> It’s not his goals. His contribution (or lack of) that is concerning and non comparable to any of the strikers listed in that list!

> One of the most stupid tweets I have seen on the issue. All of those strikers looked good! Got into good positions and may have missed a few chances but Wesley isn’t doing either
