# Aston Villa: Fans react to Yves Bissouma update

**Aston Villa are still looking to sign Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma during the [January transfer window](https://www.givemesport.com/1754870-january-transfer-window-2022-when-does-it-open-when-does-it-close-and-which-players-are-going-to-move).**

That’s according to [Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett](https://twitter.com/RobDorsettSky/status/1481210674319663114), with a number of Villa fans reacting to the update on social media.

Steven Gerrard has already bolstered his midfield ranks in 2022 by bringing in Philippe Coutinho [on loan](https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2022/january/07/villa-agree-coutinho-/), and it appears as if a holding midfielder is next on the radar following Marvelous Nakamba’s [serious knee injury](https://theathletic.com/news/aston-villas-marvelous-nakamba-likely-to-miss-rest-of-the-season/WCyCyO0tpHU6/).

Bissouma is [capable](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/yves-bissouma/leistungsdaten/spieler/410425) of playing in a defensive or central midfield role and has made [100](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/yves-bissouma/leistungsdaten/spieler/410425) Premier League appearances for the Seagulls – he averages [3.6 tackles per game](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/303096/Show/Yves-Bissouma) this season, far more than any [Villa](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/24/Show/England-Aston-Villa) player.

The [£22.5m-rated](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/yves-bissouma/profil/spieler/410425) Mali international has just [18 months](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/yves-bissouma/profil/spieler/410425) remaining on his Amex contract and has also been [linked](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2022/01/12/aston-villa-linked-40m-move-brighton-star-yves-bissouma/) with a summer switch to Manchester United.

[Dorsett](https://twitter.com/RobDorsettSky/status/1481210674319663114) said on Twitter on Wednesday that Villa are still chasing Bissouma this month with a move for Everton’s Lucas Digne now done, ending his post by calling the move a ‘[statement](https://twitter.com/RobDorsettSky/status/1481210674319663114)’ by the Villans.
