# Aston Villa: Filip Helander on Villans’ transfer radar

**Aston Villa and Leicester City are both interested in Rangers defender Filip Helander.**

That’s according to Swedish outlet [Sportbladet](https://www.aftonbladet.se/sportbladet/fotboll/a/R90KO2/avslojar-landslagsmittbacken-jagas-av-premier-league-klubbar), cited by the [Daily Record](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/filip-helander-attracting-rangers-transfer-23804759), who claimed that the Scottish champions could replace Helander with Elfsborg’s Joseph Okumu.

### Helander a Rangers regular

Helander, valued at just £1.8m by [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/filip-helander/profil/spieler/198067), is under contract at Ibrox until [2023](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/filip-helander/profil/spieler/198067).

The [Sweden international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/filip-helander/leistungsdaten/spieler/198067) has made [27](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/filip-helander/leistungsdaten/spieler/198067) appearances under Steven Gerrard this season, and it seems as if his performances have caught the eyes of Dean Smith and Brendan Rodgers.

### Transfer Tavern take

It’s not the first time Villa have been linked with the towering centre-back. Former Villa manager Steve Bruce was [reportedly keen on Helander back in the 2018 January window](https://www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/leeds-united/transfer-talk/news/villa-join-race-for-bologna-defender_312380.html) during the player’s time with Bologna.

It seems as if the club have reignited their interest three years on, and statistically Helander has outperformed both Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa this season. As per [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/), the Swede has averaged a match rating of [7.11](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/107072/Show/Filip-Helander) in the Scottish Premiership, higher than Mings’ [6.88](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/24/Show/England-Aston-Villa) and Konsa’s [6.82](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/24/Show/England-Aston-Villa). Helander has also won more aerial duels per game with [4.3](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/107072/Show/Filip-Helander), compared to Mings [2.8](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/24/Show/England-Aston-Villa) and Konsa’s [2.6](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/24/Show/England-Aston-Villa).

Based on those figures, the 27-year-old could be well worth the Villans’ time in seeking a potential move south of the border.
