Aston Villa: Four or five players could leave this summer

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery could move on up to five players this summer, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Lowdown: Positive start

Emery has made a solid start to life at Villa Park, winning five of his opening nine games back in the Premier League. He has taken Villa away from a potential relegation battle and brought in two players last month in Alex Moreno and Jhon Duran.

There already appears to be plans in place ahead of his first full season, though, with a number of incomings, and now outgoings, expected.

The Latest: Jones’ comments

Jones was talking to GiveMeSport to share some exit news he’s heard from Bodymoor Heath. He claims that he ‘asked around’ and has been ‘told’ that up to five players could depart the club, with Emery yet to make a decision on who those will be.

“I mean, there will be a turnover. I’m told we’ll probably be looking at four or five and terms of ones that like genuinely make a difference to the squad. I’ve asked around, no one seems to know exactly who it’s going to be yet because Emery seems pretty adamant that he’s leaving the stage open for anyone to perform between now and the end of the season to change his mind.”

The Verdict: Makes sense?

A complete reshuffle in the Midlands over the summer could help Emery take Villa to the next level, with a number of first-team players being on the books for a number of years now.

Villa have just two players in their current squad that are out of contract in the summer, so they could bring in some funds through sales which could then be reinvested in summer signings.

The future of Philippe Coutinho has been spoken about recently, so perhaps he could be one big name to move on, however, it looks as if Emery will give every player their chance to impress over the coming months and stake their claim to be a part of his squad moving forward.
