# Aston Villa interested in loan deal for James McCarthy

**Dean Smith is thought to be keen to add to his Aston Villa squad this winter as they look to bolster their chances of returning to the Premier League.**

The Villans have already added Lovre Kalinic and Kortney Hause, however, it appears they could look to make another addition.

[According to a report by The Daily Mail, Everton’s James McCarthy is thought to be a target for the Championship outfit.](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-6575473/Everton-midfielder-James-McCarthy-attracting-Bournemouth.html)

The experienced Republic of Ireland international is yet to feature for Marco Silva at Goodison Park following his double leg fracture.

Aston Villa could look to land the 28-year-old on a temporary switch, with the Premier League side thought to be open to allowing a loan move.

Although it appears there would be competition for his signature with the likes of Bournemouth and Fulham keen.

## The Verdict:

Although Villa already have a number of central midfielders, McCarthy would be considered a great addition to the squad and one the club should look to sign.

The 28-year-old is extremely experienced and a move to the Championship outfit could get him playing regular football once again.

However, with a number of clubs thought to be interested in him, it could be considered an ambitious move this January.
