# Aston Villa: Lucas Digne suffers possible stress fracture

**[Aston Villa](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/aston-villa-news/) defender Lucas Digne has suffered a ‘possible stress fracture’ to his right ankle, according to [L’Equipe](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Lucas-digne-aston-villa-absent-plusieurs-semaines/1355231).**

### The Lowdown: Injury issues

Steven Gerrard has had a number of injury problems to deal with this season, with many coming at the back.

Marquee summer signing [Diego Carlos](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/aug/15/diego-carlos-ruptured-achilles-aston-villa-centre-back) ruptured his achilles tendon in August while [Matty Cash](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/matty-cash-injury-aston-villa-24999540) missed the win over Southampton with a hamstring issue.

Defensive midfielder [Boubacar Kamara](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/boubacar-kamara-aston-villa-injury-25042648) suffered an injury of his own against the Saints that has ‘worried’ Gerrard, and fellow countryman Digne is also now set for a spell on the sidelines.

[L’Equipe](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Lucas-digne-aston-villa-absent-plusieurs-semaines/1355231) provided an update on the extent of Digne’s injury after it [emerged](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/aston-villa-news/aston-villa-premier-league-lucas-digne-injury-news-updates/) he was ruled out of France’s UEFA Nations League clashes with Austria and Denmark.

They claimed that ‘initial examinations revealed a possible stress fracture’ of the right ankle, which would rule him out for several weeks.

### The Verdict: Never ending

Villa can’t catch a break when it comes to injuries, and it looks as if Digne will spend a somewhat lengthy spell out, should this claim prove accurate.

Many ankle stress fractures [heal](https://www.hss.edu/conditions_stress-fractures-foot-ankle.asp#:~:text=fracture%20to%20heal.-,How%20long%20does%20it%20take%20for%20a%20stress%20fracture%20to,to%20heal%20than%20do%20others.) in a four to six-week time period, so Digne could miss all of October should it push towards a six-week absence.
