Aston Villa are plotting a move to sign Celtic youngster Aidan Borland, according to Football Insider.

The Lowdown: Smith and Wilson

Villa have a recent history when it comes to signing some young players from Scotland. Defender Kerr Smith made the move to the Midlands from Dundee United in January 2022, while young striker Rory Wilson followed suit from Rangers last summer.

Dundee’s teenage goalkeeper Alastair Graham is thought to be currently on trial with Villa, and it looks as if another exciting Scottish starlet is on their radar.

FI reporter Pete O’Rourke shared news he’s heard on Borland, with Villa getting a mention.

He said that Villa and Premier League rivals Leeds United are both plotting moves to sign the 15-year-old, who is currently impressing in Celtic’s academy.

The Verdict: One to watch

Borland could well be a star in the making as he is already featuring in Celtic’s U18s at the age of 15, and his potential has alerted a number of English clubs.

Villa obviously view the market in Scotland as an ideal opportunity to bolster their academy, so a move for Borland could be one to keep an eye on in 2023.

Should he make the move to the Midlands, you’d expect that he could initially turn out for the U18s like he has been with Celtic, looking to continue his rapid development at Bodymoor Heath.
