Dean Smith’s Aston Villa have been linked with a move for 31-year-old Brazilian forward Alex Teixeira.
Teixeira is currently a free agent and reports in Spain have linked him with a move to Villa and two other clubs.
Villa could offer Teixeira a contract
Spanish outlet Fichajes have recently reported about Teixeira’s situation, saying that Villa are interested in the Brazilian, whilst Shakhtar Donetsk and Portuguese outfit Benfica are also looking to sign the forward.
Should Villa sign Teixeira?
The Brazilian left Chinese club Jiangsu Suning only recently and he has been a free agent ever since. The report states that he isn’t lacking potential suitors right now and that Villa could offer him a two-year contract with the option of extending it for another season later on. The player believes that a move to Villa Park will help him reach his European ambitions.
Shakhtar Donetsk believe that they could keep Teixeira happy and comfortable and they can offer him European football too. The report finishes off by stating that it seems certain that Teixeira will be playing in Europe soon.
During his time at Suning, the forward scored 73 goals and picked up as many as 43 assists in just 153 appearances.
Teixeira would add depth at Villa
As per FBRef, Villa have used only 20 players in the Premier League this season and that is the lowest for any club in the division so far in the campaign. That might be suggestive of the fact that Dean Smith needs more depth in the team.
Teixeira can play on the left-wing, as an attacking midfielder or as a striker, so he is pretty versatile and his numbers suggest that he can add goals to the team. Therefore, signing him for free might prove to be a good deal for Villa.
